  • Looking for a new hobby when boon-docking?

So I have posted many times that we boon-dock very remote, the wife has plenty of things to do/hobbies. Me, I read, sometimes put up my horse shoes and we sometimes play croquet, we hike some and fish some.

Aside from hiking, sight seeing, fishing what do you do when boon-docking?

We plan to boon-dock for a couple of weeks on Christmas break in AZ. What are some ideas I (husband) do as a at camp hobby?

We boondock all summer. I fly fish a lot, and we do a lot of hiking together. Sally will bird watch, ID plants and mushrooms, and she is really into photograph, and we both just generally enjoy what nature has to offer.

You can just whittle the wood you find with a good sharp pocket knife. You will be amazed at what you can come up with. Here are some I did years ago when on camping trips.

You could also try to learn to play an instrument.
Not easy, but fun, and a challenge.

Try Rock Hounding! Fly Tying, if you fish!

Seems to be quite popular around here.

                YMMV

These are great ideas! I did try wood carving, but I am an analytic ( i work in computers, light coding and engineering) all I could come up with is an egg help?. Fly trapping:-) that is imaginative, instrument, ID plants (dogsnfish aren't you guys the ones with the blog on fishing and mushrooms, photography?) I will add these.

No, not us. I do tie a lot flies. For those who do fly fish, it is nice to spot some bug I do not have then tie it up back at the Fox.

                      You am

May need to drive a bit if you're camped really remotely, but we love geocaching!

We bike ride and explore "Rails to Trails" in the area we are staying. Historical studies of an area is a lot of fun to me. I enjoy the industrial history of how people have tamed the land and survived. This year we added kayaks, so this new adventure is taking some of our time. Walking the dog, playing with the cat, working on the trailer, just love to wipe the vehicle or trailer down with the morning dew. Reading books on the Kindles, keeping up with the stuff on the net, like this site, and keeping a daily log occupies so much time, I need an extra hour in the day, just to keep from falling behind.

I'm amazed that no one has yet suggested the following: grease the wheel bearings, pick the pebbles out of the tire grooves, clean the roof, wax the rig and TV, do the dishes, drink beer (warm), clean the screens, polish the hitch, dust the cabinets, drink neat scotch, drink neat bourbon...

There is no end of fun things to do when dry camping...
