  • Grande Ronde 5th Wheels

Looks like Northwood has transition the name of the Arctic Fox 5th Wheel models to Grande Ronde.

    I'm kinda glad mine's a Silver Fox.

Man, we just bought a 2019 27-5L and it's already outdated? But at least it's not a Ronde. What the heck is a Ronde?

Grande Ronde translates to Great Round.
However, I imagine the Grande Ronde designation refers to this area of Oregon.

I guess it makes more sense than Silver Fox when you look at how Grand Ronde relates to Northwood manufacturing.

They must have used a Marketing Focus Group to come up with that name ... or maybe not. Does seem odd to be used as a name for an entire line of trailers. Somehow not very flattering to my thinking.

I grew up in that area of ID/WA/OR. We would drop a jet boat into the Snake river at Heller Bar and fish the entire area for steelhead and salmon. The Grande Ronde empties into the Snake about half a mile up river from Heller Bar. I understand the salmon fishing is all but done on the Grande Ronde. Things change.

When I first seen "silver fox" I figured it was a Sam Elliott design.
I would say Sean Connery as well but he has went solar powered.
I like the silver fox name better as well.

'Grande Ronde'... Wasn't that a western movie in the 60's ?

Silver Fox.....Charlie Rich for sure. Maybe Grand Ronde is to refer to the ever expanding girth of our bellies.

Grand Ronde is an important part of Oregon history. From "Oregon Historic Names" by McArthur: "...the two words together (in French) may be taken as describing a fine large valley of excellent appearance, more or less hemmed in by hills." We have a Grand Ronde valley and Indian community Was once an Indian reservation) west of Salem, Oregon and is included in the same narrative. "This valley and the one in Union County were named by French-Canadian trappers." "This imposing valley (Union County) has given its name to Grande Ronde River and also to La Grande." This area was mentioned in early journals as early as 1827. The "e" at the end of Grande wa dropped at some point from the location in western Oregon but has remained as intended in eastern Oregon. My ancestors came to Oregon on the Oregon Trail in 1843 and 1851 and a portion of this trail went right behind the Grande Hot Springs RV Resort where we hold our NROA rally each year just outside of La Grande. Now you know--from a proud Oregon trail descendant! I think the name is really cool--it is still an Arctic Fox!

Linda, having been born on the wet side of a oregon, I really haven’t spent a lot of time on the east side of our State so your history is appreciated. Until I purchased our Fox I only knew about the Community of Grand Rhonda on the way to Lincoln City. Can’t remember how many times we stopped there for a really good cinnamon roll

That’s what they pay all those marketing consultants for, to make up silly names for their products.

I would so agree with the $$$ and the advertising agencies they pay. Seems are a hit or miss on what they come with and this was a sure miss for me!!!!!!! Do not think this will be able to compete with the Bud Frogs, the Old Home Bread mega hit with song, the Camel on hump day!!!!!! But then totally different categories. Just wish if it was a change it would have been better. Seems like the following is loyal and proud of their brand. Would thing the MFG would have a little more to do with this forum and seek out advice that might assist them??????

We are the same as Txshirle, we purchased a 2019 27-5L (we love it). I’m not sure I would like the name Grande Ronde, thought the Fox had a great name and reputation. I know when we purchase our 25-P Arctic Fox and it did not have the Fox logo on it we almost left without it, the dealer promised to send us a couple Fox decals (they did!)
