As some of you know Webshots was sold.......So what does this mean? My site is about to have a lot of red X's on it where members photos used to be! I do not like this one little bit. I so want to find a permanent solutions to this photo upload situation. Having photos in the post just makes things so much clearer IMHO. So in my mind what I need is control over the storage of these photo's. Some way a member can easily upload his/her photo right from the computer but yet does not cause server overload when it comes time to back up the site. Now wanting something and achieving it is something else. In the mean time I am trying figure out how to use Photo Bucket like I used to use Webshots.

    Adam,

Your nice full-definition 20-year logo just took about 15 seconds to display
over a 3G Verizon connection (admittedly one of the slower ones I have encountered for a while) in this area = Lat,Lon( 33.2559419386931, -112.815123796354 ).

If it were at all possible to have the photos up-loaded and then "automatically"
    * -- display a thumbnail display in the post (preferably with a size indicator)
    * -- and make that thumbnail be a link to the actual photo (stored on the afnash server),
then the restricted band-width versus really-big-detailed-photos conflict would be minimized.

I manually do the creation of thumbnails (to size and resolution that fits the specific web-page) that are links to the original photo.
These links are generally set to be "Target = _blank" to force a new window/tab to allow the user to flip back-and-forth from original context to the photo.

    Thanks, --David.

Well it looks like you just set up an acct with Photobucket.com and then once you have uploaded your photo to their server. You select the IMG code under the link box by clicking on it. You should get a copied little message. Then just post it into your post where you want the photo to show up. Its that easy!

On Webshots you could choose the size of the photo you wish to post, do not see that option so far on Photobucket.

That's how I do it with Flicker and Picture Trail......here's an example..... http://www.afnash.com/showthread.php...ll=1#post95641

In Flicker you can choose the size of photo.....

By the way, Flicker has an acct. that allows a free limited size. However, for only $20 a year you can get unlimited space. I probably have a couple thousand photos just in the past year. It also allows you to organize them into files, etc. and name/date them or however you want to do it. On the date, instead of using the forward slash (it will not allow that) you just use the dot . So for the photo above (or all the photos taken there in a file) I may put something like "12.5.12 Summit Lake"

The down side to hosting to these domains is that once you do it, the photo technically belongs to them. You can't ever deleate it. So I never load any personal family photos to Flicker.....keep them on a thumb drive or my puter hard drive.

Just a suggestion for those that are challenged on such things. Tryin to help.

Give me half an hour to get home and then I'll try to help you with it Adam. Basically, you have to choose URL or BBC. I use BBC here and a couple other forums yet others I use URL. Then click on "Share" and a drop down window opens displaying about five or six different sizes. Pick one, then right click and copy then come over here to the forum and paste. It'll be about five or six lines long......I always delete everything on either side of the image tags, just to shorten it and not reflect that it's a flicker hosted photo.
