  • Camping/Boondocking near Broadus MT

I am traveling east in a few weeks and plan to stay overnight near Broadus MT. Want to just pull over and spend the night, don't need an RV spot. The Cottonwood Park in Broadus or a rest stop out of town were mentioned. Anyone have experience with either of these spots?

I just drove through Broadus earlier this week. I've never stayed right close to Broadus, but I've boondocked near Belle Fourche (~100 mi E) twice.

On the other side of Broadus (38 mi W), there's Red Shale Campground in Custer NF. It has great reviews on Campendium.com, and it's free. I peeked inside as I drove past, and it looked like a fine boondocking spot.

There is a city park in Broadus just after you make the stop and right turn in town. I really don't think anyone would bother you if you just pulled in and spent the night. There is lots of parking all around the park. The rest stop just east of town by the weigh station is a nice pull off with 24 hr restrooms also. Forgot to mention that i have stopped at both of these late night and stayed and not had any issues.

Thanks for the input! I want to stop in Broadus because it will be my end of day after driving in from Missoula.

That will be over a 500 mile day, you will be ready for a nights rest. Have a safe trip.

The 500 mile day is not the norm when we travel, but I need to arrive in Wisconsin by a date certain. I have been across Montana many times on the way to South Dakota to hunt pheasants since 2001, and it does not get any easier! Thanks for all of the input.
